Thank you, the planning team knows the holiday season is a busy time and we truly appreciate your consideration for volunteering for this event! The annual QAE Fund Drive is on! This is your chance to help our school and its students. If you haven't seen it yet, here's the letter Principal Roy is including in our orange folders:
--- Dear QAE family, The annual QAE Fund Drive has begun! I’m writing today to ask you to make a special gift to support QAE students. Because you know, like I do, that school funding does not cover everything we want for our children. Here’s what your gift to the Fund Drive will do . . . Your gift will help fund three of the key specialists that make QAE such an incredible place for your child:
Additionally, you’ll help fund the Social Emotional Learning and Project Based Learning curriculum. On the back page of this letter I’ve included a list of all of the things your gift helps fund. It’s a long list. I need to be clear. QAE does not receive funding for the three positions above. Unless you and the PTSA raise the money, these positions will not be filled. So each year, an incredible group of people band together to help QAE provide a fantastic learning and growing experience for our children. The PTSA organizes the fund drive. As Principal, I do everything I can to support them – and you. Because it’s your generosity that makes these incredible things possible for the students. It’s your generosity that provides for the people and programs that set our school – and your kids – apart. Please send a gift, by December 15th, using the enclosed reply card or by going to: https://qae.givingfuel.com/qae-ptsa-annual-fund-drive Very appreciatively, Janine Roy Principal, QAE ![]() QAE 4th graders are teaming up with Seattle Seed Co. and YOU to raise money for their IslandWood Experience! Principal Roy sent this note out to QAE families today:
----- Dear QAE families: Based on today's Seattle Times article: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/education/seattle-school-bus-drivers-to-strike-wednesday/, there is the possibility of a bus strike which may impact QAE's bus students starting tomorrow. For those families who may need to drop students off before 7:35 am, additional morning supervision will be in place starting at 7 am in QAE's cafeteria and will be in place daily for the duration of this strike. Students who need to be dropped off before 7:35 am should go to the cafeteria, and then they will be supervised on the playground as usual starting at 7:35 am. Please email me if you have questions, as I want to do everything possible to support our impacted QAE families. Janine Roy, QAE Principal [email protected] Friday, December 8th is the Hour of Code at Queen Anne Elementary!
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago (and women account for only 12% of computer science degrees). That’s why our entire school is again joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week. More than 100 Million Students have participated already (and our kids are among them!) The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Here’s a video to get you inspired! This is our fifth year and the program has been such a success – inspiring students, teachers, and parents. Here’s how you can get involved! Top 5 ways to get involved with Hour of Code (note - you don’t need to be at school for 4 of them) We need your help! Here are the top 5 ways you can get involved with the Hour of Code!
Thank you for all your support and help as we introduce our kids to the skills they need to flourish in the 21st Century. We learn everywhere, we learn together If you have any other questions, please send an email to [email protected]. Thanks, The Hour of Code Team. Families and Friends ... Our QAE Community As the holiday season approaches, stresses and strains we might otherwise dismiss can overwhelm us. Offer assistance this holiday season If you would like assistance or offer assistance, please download the .pdf form below, fill it out and return to the school office in a sealed envelope by Friday, December 1st. Have some caffeine with Janine! Please join us for "Coffee After the Bell" - an (almost) monthly opportunity for QAE parents to check in with Ms. Roy in a casual, warm cafeteria gathering. What can you expect at PBL night? Wondering about the move? What's up with that big 'ole lake that develops in the playground every time it rains? Bring all your questions and she'll do her best to answer them. It's a great way to connect with our principal and start your morning!
The QAE PTSA will provide coffee for each of these chats! The first gathering will be on Thursday, November 30, from 8-8:30. Bring your questions and comments, and—if you’re bringing preschoolers along—something to entertain them with. If you want to mark your calendar, here are the details for the rest of the year: TIME: 8-8:30am PLACE: QAE Cafeteria DATES:
On Sunday, the weather outside looks frightful, but on Saturday it looks so delightful...so we're changing the date for the Big Dig!

And don't forget, for every non-perishable bag of food you donate (big or small) you'll be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to Seattle Center IMAX Theater. Food will be donated to Lowell Elementary and NWHarvest. We hope to see you there this SATURDAY! Join educators and families from across the Seattle area for this FREE screening and discussion of "Most Likely to Succeed", hosted by H3 School
(created by former QAE Principal David Elliott) and Nathan Hale High School. "Most Likely To Succeed" is the best film ever done on the topic of school — both its past and its future. The film inspires its audiences with a sense of purpose and possibility, and is bringing school communities together in re-imagining what our students and teachers are capable of doing. After seeing this film, you’ll never look at “school” the same way again.
