We'll return to the QAE campus in 2019-20. The QAE campus is going to be expanded to better accommodate our enrollment with a new classroom, add a full-sized gym, improve the outdoor play area and more. During the renovation, QAE will be at the John Marshall building near Greenlake. The address is 520 NE Ravenna Blvd. It's a building that's used by SPS to temporarily house schools during major projects. For example, this year Loyal Heights Elementary is using the building. Friday, December 8th is the Hour of Code at Queen Anne Elementary!
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago (and women account for only 12% of computer science degrees). That’s why our entire school is again joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week. More than 100 Million Students have participated already (and our kids are among them!) The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Here’s a video to get you inspired! This is our fifth year and the program has been such a success – inspiring students, teachers, and parents. Here’s how you can get involved! Top 5 ways to get involved with Hour of Code (note - you don’t need to be at school for 4 of them) We need your help! Here are the top 5 ways you can get involved with the Hour of Code!
Thank you for all your support and help as we introduce our kids to the skills they need to flourish in the 21st Century. We learn everywhere, we learn together If you have any other questions, please send an email to [email protected]. Thanks, The Hour of Code Team. Have some caffeine with Janine! Please join us for "Coffee After the Bell" - an (almost) monthly opportunity for QAE parents to check in with Ms. Roy in a casual, warm cafeteria gathering. What can you expect at PBL night? Wondering about the move? What's up with that big 'ole lake that develops in the playground every time it rains? Bring all your questions and she'll do her best to answer them. It's a great way to connect with our principal and start your morning!
The QAE PTSA will provide coffee for each of these chats! The first gathering will be on Thursday, November 30, from 8-8:30. Bring your questions and comments, and—if you’re bringing preschoolers along—something to entertain them with. If you want to mark your calendar, here are the details for the rest of the year: TIME: 8-8:30am PLACE: QAE Cafeteria DATES:
![]() It's the spookiest time of the year! The annual tradition continues in 2017 our community has its Halloween Parade and class celebrations on Tuesday, Oct. 31st! We'll be parading around the school grounds this year. Classes will meet on the blacktop and the parade begins at 1pm. Parents and families are welcome to come watch the parade. Teachers will escort their students back to their rooms for class parties after the parade for our class parties! Class parties are planned individually, so if you'd like to help out please contact your classroom coordinator or teacher. A couple details to make sure the kids remain safe while having tons of fun: it's a regular school day in the morning, so make sure your child's costume doesn't stop them from learning. Exceptions: props and masks can only be used/worn during the parade. Have a happy Halloween and don't each too much of your kid's candy! UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, this event has been changed to Saturday, November 18th from 10am to noon! We'll see you there!
Join us for a QAE Fall Garden Party on Sunday, November 19th! Our November Big Dig is all about finding new homes for the perennial garden plants. Come June, our garden space is going to be sadly bulldozed. The good is that it makes new classrooms for our growing population of students. Our Big Dig will be from 10am-12pm at the QAE Garden! Dig up now as these plants go dormant for beautiful blooms in the spring/summer. Learn how to build a cloche for winter gardening. We hope your family participates in this growing adventure with us! Find out more on the QAE Garden page... If your student missed the first photo day, be sure to mark down November 2nd as QAE's day for photo retakes. We'll also be taking class photos and the all-school photo. It's a tradition! Here's a previous version: Thursday, November 16th - 6-8pm
Blue Highway Games will be visiting QAE with awesome games that have a math focus. Enjoy pizza, drinks and getting together with friends for a true gamer experience. Games will be available for purchase and a percentage will go to funding wonderful programs at our school. A great way to get a jump on the holiday shopping! See you there! Please RSVP so we know how much food to provide. See the Game Night page to RSVP and get other details! Questions or want to help with this event? Contact Christa Winquist at [email protected] ![]() Monday, November 6th, 8am and all day!
