On September 27th teachers will be presenting two times—from 6:30 to 7:10 and from 7:20 to 8:00. You may choose to attend either presentation, they will cover the same material so please be on time to one of the sessions.
The purpose of Curriculum Night is to provide you with an overview of your child’s year at Queen Anne. It is important to me that you get to know your child’s teacher, their vision, their focus and also very importantly, some of the nuts and bolts stuff of this second year. Please look at your family calendar before you come and prepare to choose a time for your Parent/Teacher/Student Conference the first two or three days of Thanksgiving week. Some of our teachers will be making Saturday, November 19th available for conferences also. Please remember that conferences preempt vacation during that week so please plan a conference time before making travel arrangements. Teachers will not be prepared for one-on-one conferences during Curriculum Night but you will have time to look around the room, look at your child’s work and get a feel for their space. Jeffrey Riley will be in the library/computer lab and Jeff Rothenberg will be in the Treehouse and those are stops you must make while you are at the school that night. Teachers will be leaving the building by 8:15PM to get some sleep for the following day. Please respect their time and thanks for making the time for this important event. Are you an accounting wiz? Or eager to find out how the WA Legislative decisions affect QAE? Then the QAE PTSA Board would love to hear from you!
We have an almost full board with a few vacant spots which we'd like to fill asap and are hoping you know of someone who is qualified and interested. The 2 open board positions are Co-Treasurer and Legislative Co-Chair. If you have anyone to nominate or want to self-nominate, please contact Jill Gallagher at [email protected]. No PTSA Board experience is necessary, and this is a fabulous way to get involved in shaping the future of your childrens' school. Thanks for considering! September 22 from 10-11:30 we are having an all school clean-up.
We have shrubs and flowers to plant in the front of the brick building, some weeding too and will do a general sweep-up/pick-up for the entire campus. Both big hand and little hands are welcome! This is a great opportunity for you to contribute to the community and instill the joy of service in your children's hearts. Let's make QAE the cleanest campus on the hill! If you have suggestions for chores or would be able to help bring brooms, shovels, weeding tools or snacks for the workers, please contact Kristin Teske at [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing you there! The QAE PTSA Hello!
QAE will have the Roots of Empathy program again this year, and we are looking for babies that were born in June or July of 2012 to be our ROE "tiny teachers." Roots of Empathy is a classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among children by raising social/emotional competence. The program's aim is to increase empathy - the ability to understand another person's feelings. They do this by watching the baby’s growth over the school year. To be a ROE baby, mom or dad would bring the baby to visit once a month (Oct-June) for about 30 minutes. If you would like to participate or have further inquiries, please contact Meg Ferris, QAE mom & ROE Coordinator, at [email protected]. Thank you! - An informational meeting for the Robotics Teams with Mr. Poole will be held on Sept. 12, 2012, 7-8 pm at QAE Cafeteria. Interested families may register at the meeting.
- Three more days to enroll in Unicycle with Mr. Rothenberg. Due by Sept. 12, 2012. - One more week to enroll in the following 4 clubs, due by Sept. 17, 2012. Art Club with Kids Create Art. Language Classes by the Language Link, LLC. After School Hoops® by One on One Basketball. Animation with Clay Animation Network. Please see the club enrollment page (http://qaeclubs.weebly.com/club-enrollment.html) for details. Thank you! From Principal Elliott:
We have a number of intersections around our school that require very careful supervision and very few children old enough to participate in that responsibility. Our immediate need is for 10-15 parents who would be willing to devote a morning (9-9:30am) or afternoon or more for the first two weeks of school while Joe Bailey is doing refresher training and recruiting for new trainees. We will have an ongoing need for parent volunteers at 4th and Boston, nicknamed Crazy Town by those who worked there last year. We believe it is too busy and too dangerous for students to monitor and need two parent volunteers every day of the school year. Last year about eight to ten parents performed that service all year and we would love to have twice that many step forward this year to take the responsibility off the few. If you can help with the short-term—the next few weeks—or believe you might help in the long-term, please email Joe Bailey at [email protected] as soon as possible. The Fifth Grade class will be holding a BAKE SALE Friday after school as a fundraiser for their trip to Islandwood, September 17-20. We hope you will be bring your appetite and cash to celebrate the end of our back to school week! QAE Fifth Graders The QAE PTSA is excited to offer 12 before and after school clubs and activities to our families for the 2012-2013 school year. Please visit the Before/After school activities page to see the schedule and links to enroll.
